LIONS TO OPEN AGAINST TIGERS

LEICESTER and Sheffield have announced plans to start the season with an Inter-League Challenge between the two clubs.

The sides will meet in the East Midlands at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium on Saturday March 19 (1pm start) before the return fixture takes place in South Yorkshire at Owlerton on Thursday March 24.

Leicester owner David Hemsley said: “Sheffield reached the quarter-finals of the Premier League play-offs last year and they have put together another competitive team that should feature strongly in the race for the title.

“Four of their riders also race in the Elite League so we can expect a rigorous work-out before we enter our official fixtures.”

Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates said: “We are delighted to be racing Leicester at the start of the season, I’m sure we will see two good meetings and the fans of both clubs will want to see both of them.

“I have little doubt the Sheffield fans will want to take the short hop down the M1 to go to Leicester and we look forward to welcoming Lions fans to Owlerton on March 24.”
