LIONS ANNOUNCE NEW TEAM SPONSOR

The Leicester Lions have a new main team sponsor on board this season. The team will now be known as the Paul Chapman and Sons Leicester Lions.

Co-Promoter David Darcy said: “We are delighted to welcome the company on board and their backing has given the club a major boost on the eve of the new season.”

Paul Chapman founded the business in 1982 and since then the family-run business has evolved and expanded into one of the largest crushing and screening companies in the country offering a friendly, personal and cost effective service. In addition to the crushing and screening services provided to customers on site, a range of quality recycled aggregate is produced at their recycling yard based in Spondon, Derbyshire.

Chapman, who was born and bred in Leicester, said: “Sport has played a big part in my life. I followed the Lions in the first era at the old Blackbird Road Stadium and I was naturally pleased when speedway returned to the city in 2011. We are very much looking forward to working with the club and wish the team every success this season.”

Last season, in the absence of a team sponsor, the club carried the name of a very worthy charity on the team’s race suits, Loros (Hospice care for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland). “We hope that by displaying the charity’s name all last season we in some way helped to promote what a wonderful service they offer to the community” added Darcy.

The speedway season opens on Saturday 19th March when the Lions face the Sheffield Tigers in an Inter-League Challenge match at home before embarking upon their Elite League campaign with a Midlands derby fixture against Coventry seven days later.
