LEICESTER supporters are invited to a party at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena tonight (Wednesday 7.30pm).
All of the club’s Championship title-winning heroes will be in attendance at the first leg of the Roger Webster Lion Cubs’ National League KO Cup Final against Belle Vue.
It’s the last home track racing of an unforgettable season, and the Watling JCB Lions are set to parade the Championship trophy which they clinched at Glasgow on Tuesday, and will be available for photos with the fans – plus the meeting will end with a fireworks display.
On-track, it’s now over to the Cubs, who over the coming days can replicate the achievements of the senior side by winning two major trophies.
They established a dominant position in the league Grand Final as they lead Kent 59-31 heading to Central Park next Monday – which means Ellis Perks could complete a unique treble of title wins, having also triumphed in the top-flight with Swindon.
And the double is still very much available, although a tough test does await against an excellent Colts side who suffered play-off frustration in the semi-finals against Kent.
Ironically the visitors include Kyle Bickley and Connor Bailey, who were the Glasgow reserve pairing in the Championship Grand Final, and they have other top teenage talent in Jordan Palin and Leon Flint.
As with last week’s Final, the onus is on the Lion Cubs as they look to build a lead to take to Manchester on Friday, and they are unchanged from the Kent clash with Perks and skipper Danyon Hume again looking to lead from the front.
Co-promoter Neil Machin said: “This memorable season will be referenced for many years to come and future teams will be measured accordingly.
“The Leicester Speedway record books have already been re-written this season with hopefully more silverware to come.
“David Howard and Dave Darcy have lived and breathed every fixture this year at National League level, they have always assembled the best team possible home and away and like Stewart Dickson are central figures in the success story of this year.
“Hopefully a classic encounter will ensue, and our intention is to gain an advantage at home in order to put us in the driving seat for the second leg on Friday.”
