LEICESTER sailed through to the Semi-Finals of the Championship Knockout Cup following their 50-40 home tie victory over Scunthorpe.
The Watling JCB Lions were major favourites to progress having wrapped up a 14-point victory in the away leg last month.
And a steady enough home showing saw them secure a 102-78 aggregate success over the Scorpions.
Ryan Douglas returned to top form dropping just two points while captain Kyle Howarth recorded a hat-trick of wins on his way to ten points.
No.1 Nick Morris dropped just one point to the opposition while young reserve Joe Thompson produced his highest score of the season so far with a mature display.
A season personal best was also the case for Ty Proctor who looked a lot more competitive with a couple of race wins under his belt.
Dan Thompson was pulled out of his last ride after feeling the effects of a collision with Scunthorpe No.1 Josh Auty - a crash which saw the visiting skipper head to local hospital via ambulance.
Meanwhile it was another tough night for popular figure Josh Bates who endured two falls, one whilst leading his second ride.
Team boss Stewart Dickson was pleased to see his side make it through - but is still demanding more from his team as a unit.
“We’d done the hard work in the first leg really,” he said.
“We ended up 50-40 here - but for me that’s not as convincing as what it should’ve been.
“We’re not firing on all cylinders, I think everybody can see that , but I’ll let the dust settle on tonight and see where we go tomorrow.
“We apologise for the few delays we had for various reasons; we had a few issues with the track which is probably my fault for not putting enough water down on it during the day.
“And we also send our best wishes to Josh Auty because that really was a nasty looking crash out of the back straight.”
The Watling JCB Lions start a run of three league fixtures in four days on home shale next Saturday (June 19, 7pm) against Redcar - but the next action at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena comes this Wednesday (June 16, 7.30) as the Roger Webster Leicester Lion Cubs host the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the National Development League.
