LEICESTER Speedway have received further recognition for their stunning 2019 season.

The club have been nominated in two categories at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards, with their gala evening taking place on January 16 at Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road Stadium, acknowledging individuals and teams across 14 different categories.

Having won a league and Shield double in the Championship, and a league and Cup double in the National League, the club are nominated in the Team of the Year section along with the Leicester Riders (basketball) and Coritanian Master's Men Road and Cross Country team.

Meanwhile, Watling JCB Lions boss Stewart Dickson is nominated for the Manager/Coach of the Year award, where he is up against Rob Paternostro (Leicester Riders Basketball) and Mark McKenna (Leicester Sharks Swimming Club).

Dickson said: “I feel this is a great honour for our club, and regardless of winning or not we are certainly putting Leicester Lions on the map.”
