LEICESTER have moved to hand 2019 title-winner Ty Proctor a return to the team for next season.

Proctor stepped in for the Watling JCB Lions in a summer switch from Sheffield, taking the place of long-term injury victim Josh Bates.

And the Australian then very much played his part in both the league and Championship Shield successes in the closing stages of the campaign.

That made it back-to-back league titles as Proctor had also been victorious in 2018 with Workington, and his experience will be another vital factor as the Lions look to repeat the feat themselves.

He returns on an average of 6.84 and will expect to improve on that figure next year.

Boss Stewart Dickson said: “Ty is a bit of a lucky charm when it comes to winning league titles and trophies, and I’m delighted to have him back.

“He struggled a bit initially but once we worked out a way to get him going, both him and myself got it going - and I think next season he can get his average back over seven.

“Ty is a very good gater, hence the reason why I put him at No.2 in a lot of meetings - it gives you a strong start because he’s capable of outgating most riders in the league, and once he got used to his home track he proved to be a good signing.

“I think a wee bit of stability won’t do him any harm, and he can push on again next season.”

*FORMER skipper Scott Nicholls has been named as the first signing for Championship newcomers Kent. All at Leicester wish Scott well for his move to Central Park.
